HGV Cat C+E Licence Requirements

  • You must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid LGV Cat C or Class 2 Licence.

  • Alternatively, you can go straight from a Category B (car licence) to a Cat C+E licence, a very popular option currently.

  • Additional steps include obtaining a provisional licence, passing a medical test, completing a theory exam, and gaining your Periodic CPC certification.

  • To maintain your licence, you must complete 35 hours of Periodic CPC training every five years.

Advance Your HGV Career with an LGV/HGV Cat C+E Licence

If you're looking to increase your income and enhance your professional HGV driving CV, stepping up to an HGV Cat C+E licence (Class 1 licence) is the way to go. Unlike the standard Cat C licence, which is common for most professional drivers, an HGV Cat C+E licence allows you to drive vehicles over 7.5 tonnes with detachable or separate trailers. This licence is also referred to as a Class 1 Licence. So, if you see a job requiring a Class 1 licence, you'll know it means you need your HGV Cat C+E for that role.

Who Should Take Cat C+E Training

If you’re already an experienced Cat C driver and want to explore higher earning potential, upgrading to a Cat C+E licence offers access to a wider range of better-paid jobs.
